Reading Preview

I generally post an end-of-year list of books I have read throughout the year. I suppose I'll do that again in about six months (can you believe we are almost half-way through 2022?????), but thought I would give you a preview.

I started running a summer reading list in my column a few years ago, following the lead of other bloggers, columnists, etc. For this one I received a great email from a reader, listing all the books in the Louise Penny Inspector Gamache series, as well as from another series I was unfamiliar with. I guess he wanted to make sure I didn't miss any.

Interesting list, Bob! Iron Lake has been on my TBR for awhile, but I hate to get started on another series and I think I remember my options for getting some of the books were limited. The Maid is our book club selection for August, so I'll be reading it soon. I also have Furious Hours on my TBR. A blogging friend recommended it along with both of Lee's novels. (I've only read TKAM) As you know Forty Autumns was one of my favorites last year, too.

I’m not big on lists when it comes to reading. I often get books that come along like the mentioned “Forty Autumns” that speak to me and my list goes out the window. I also tend to jump around to different genres of nonfiction writing and styles and can quickly burn out if I don’t.

Like Ed Bob - I tend not to have a list. To start with I belong a Book Group. Sometimes the book suggested in easy to read and I get through a few others in the month but at other times I don't get anything else read (this month's book is Chaucer's Canterbury Tales - I shall be lucky to get anything else read shalln't I.

Kelly — I decided I would not read Harper Lee’s other novel, Go Set a Watchman. Mockingbird is in my top 5 and I don’t want to do anything that would take away from that. You know there are different stories about how it came to be. If/when you read Furious Hours, you’ll learn more of the backstory.

Ed — I thought of you when I read Forty Autumns, knowing your preference for non-fiction. Kelly recommended it and I am grateful!

Weaver — I read Canterbury Tales years ago in college and loved it! Maybe it’s time to reread?

Wow. Thanks for this list Bob. I spy with my little eye 4 books that I am anxious to get my hands on. Since William is in a library reading program, and I am making regular trips to the library, I should be able to find them.

I have only read "Jesus and John Wayne." I like the idea of summer reading lists, but mine just all seem to run together.
