I still plan to post more about our recent vacation and include pictures, but need a little more time to get some in order. In the meantime, Kelly's recent post about a classical reading challenge piqued my interest. I try to read one or two classics each year, but I plan to join the challenge to motivate myself to read more. I recently wrote in my weekly column about one I recently read, and thought I would share. Vacation pictures soon!

I'm excited that you're considering The Classics Club! I can hardly wait to get started in January! Meanwhile, I have quite a few others on tap for November and December.

And in all honesty, no, I don’t think you’d like it. I think for anyone wanting to try Percy, you start with another one.
One thing about reading exclusively non-fiction, I generally don't get in such dilemmas. They all have a plot. Sometimes though, authors tend to get so expansive in detail that it makes for tedious reading but I have learned to skim through some chapters if that is the case. When I started my project of reading a biography on every president, I was awed by my first two selections which were very large books on Washington and Adams. So for awhile, if multiple biographies existed, I would buy the larger of them. I quickly realized that was a mistake with some authors and now am more selective with the author I pick and if I don't recognize any of the authors, I choose a smaller book. I remember reading Chernow's Hamilton book, long before Miranda, and being bored to tears in sections, especially the rehashing of every single Federalist paper. He could have left half that book on his office floor and it would be a much better book. How Miranda got through it and created such a fantastical musical, I'll never know.
I belong a monthly Book Club which is always something pretty 'heavy' so other than that I try to choose fairly light reading - not rubbish or chic lit though.
I've read "The Movigower" years ago and don't remember much about it. That goes for all of Percy's books--I read several of them, but none of them really impressed me.
