I remembered early on (CCC and I discussed it), but then it just slipped my mind.

Pam's right...our mother did make beautiful cakes. A couple of mine were a butterfly and a Winnie-the-Pooh. I did some pretty good ones for my kids, too. One that stands out in my memory is the schoolbus I did for my son. Of course mine were just box cake mix and tub frosting, but at least I tried to "pretty them up"!

I love when you share memories from your growing up since often it overlaps with some of mine!Kellyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00859017153454691633noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2987040098977019674.post-60326269083767073232009-10-26T19:56:01.486-05:002009-10-26T19:56:01.486-05:00Happy Birthday, Bob!!!

She was very talented at making these fun cakes.

I used to make my kids' cakes when they were growing up, too.

Today, for my grandsons, I let Wal-Mart or Tom Thumb do the honors for me. Today the kids want all the Spider-Man, Transformers, Star Wars and other character cakes that I just don't have time to replicate!

Birthdays always have been and always will be big deals in my family. Even at my age I like my special day! :)

Our Connor boy has his 12th birthday on Nov. 8th.

Again, happy bday!!!! :)Pamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17133743056974995270noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2987040098977019674.post-59646195513384685212009-10-26T12:12:58.118-05:002009-10-26T12:12:58.118-05:00Yes. I used to make it. Then I started getting up ...Yes. I used to make it. Then I started getting up there (years), and the pounds started creeping in, and well, *grumble, mumble*, I just don't make a lot of deserts these days, what with only Tim and I rattling around the house.

But I remember how you could take the knife and make little curley cue peaks everywhere. It did make for a very pretty cake. Maybe at Thanksgiving when the kids come home...Debbyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09531125606268748793noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2987040098977019674.post-65063193124594738352009-10-26T06:19:47.181-05:002009-10-26T06:19:47.181-05:00I have all my mother's old recipes so am sure ...I have all my mother's old recipes so am sure I have it, but thanks. Do you ever make it or do you know anyone who does? As I said, I have never seen it again, nor do I know anyone who makes it. Really did make a beautiful cake -- I am sure it's a lot of trouble.Bobhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15978016568840318921noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2987040098977019674.post-21347957765888222832009-10-26T03:39:59.879-05:002009-10-26T03:39:59.879-05:00Happy birthday. It's called a 'boiled frosting' or a seven minute frosting. Would you like the recipe?Debbyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09531125606268748793noreply@blogger.com
